Land: France, Montagne des Reims, Champagne
Grapes: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
Notable: Organic, Biodynamic
Taste: Terre de Solemme, Premier Cru Champagne from the Montagne de Reims. The presence of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay gives this wine a lot of freshness and finesse.
Winery: Olivier Langlais comes from a long line of Champagne growers, farming six hectares in the Montagne des Reims, with vines coming from both his mother and father’s side. When he took over, he immediately started the conversion to organics. Implementing biodynamic practices, the vineyards will be certified organic in 2018. Clearly, the life under vine has been renewed, as his fields are full of wild herbs and flora. Each step of the winemaking process is timed to the lunar calendar. There is no oak or malolactic fermentation here, intentionally letting the minerality shine.
As a longtime resident of the village of Hamilton, it has been my dream to provide a unique retail experience in the heart of Hamilton. Over the years, my husband Doug and I have been fortunate to gain experience with wine and liquor through our restaurant and catering business, Seven Oaks. It was during this time that my passion and interest for wine blossomed and I started to envision a liquor and wine store that would provide both an interesting and affordable selection of wines and offer fun ways to educate the community about wine. From this vision, Crush Bottleshop was born in September of 2019.
I continue to hone my understanding of wine with recent trips to Italy and France and sommelier courses, there is so much to learn! I offer monthly, free themed wine classes, regular tastings, and ideas for holiday pairings when our shop is running it’s regular hours.
I am always open to questions and suggestions, feel free to drop me a line.
