Land: USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Grapes: Chardonnay
Notable: Practicing Organic
Critical Acclaim:
Taste: This wine’s aromatics offer up lemon custard and stone fruit. This is a clean bright expression of our chardonnay. It has a persistant white floral note that leads into warm toast and hazelnut – this all shows off the perfectly developed golden grapes that finish like a bite of perfectly ripe pear. The acid is fine and complex without any hard edges giving this wine tension to help you appreciate it’s subtleties.
Winery: Big Table Farm is the collaborative effort of Brian Marcy and Clare Carver. We are a winemaker and an artist, we grow and produce what we love to eat and drink.
Brian Marcy is our winemaker. In 1996 Brian worked his first harvest, having studied fermentation science at Davis he took to the process of winemaking easily and loved it. Brian worked in the Napa Valley and learned from many of the most esteemed winemakers and wineries including Turley Wine cellars, Neyers Vineyards, Blankiet Estate and Marcassin just to name a few. Brian also spent a Harvest working in Australia at Trevor Jones Fine Wines. These varied experiences have contributed to Brian’s ability to optimize each vintage and vineyard into the bottles of Big Table Farm wines.
In addition to partnering with Brian to market the wine and manage their 70 acres, Clare is also a painter and wine label designer. Clare's fine art is represented in Galleries in San Francisco and Sonoma and now in Carlton OR. Clare has designed wine labels for over 50 wineries from Oregon, California and Washington. Her labels have recieved multiple awards including america's top ten wine labels (S.F. Chronicle, '06)
We named our Farm and winery after our desire to provide a gracious and welcoming table for ourselves and friends, with a cornucopia of hand-crafted food and wine. Ambitious as it is, we have launched a winery and are establishing a working farm, where we raise pasture poultry, pigs, cows, and egg-laying chickens. We also keep a large garden. We are working towards a managed intensive grazing system of farming that builds our soil, sequesters carbon, and moves us towards a healthy, sustainable and diverse farm.
Alice Virden-Speer
store owner
As a longtime resident of the village of Hamilton, it has been my dream to provide a unique retail experience in the heart of Hamilton. Over the years, my husband Doug and I have been fortunate to gain experience with wine and liquor through our restaurant and catering business, Seven Oaks. It was during this time that my passion and interest for wine blossomed and I started to envision a liquor and wine store that would provide both an interesting and affordable selection of wines and offer fun ways to educate the community about wine. From this vision, Crush Bottleshop was born in September of 2019.
I continue to hone my understanding of wine with recent trips to Italy and France and sommelier courses, there is so much to learn! I offer monthly, free themed wine classes, regular tastings, and ideas for holiday pairings when our shop is running it’s regular hours.
I am always open to questions and suggestions, feel free to drop me a line.
